Without it, one at-fault accident can raise your premium 25–40% for six years. With it, your first at-fault claim is forgiven.
Stops minor tickets (speeding, distracted, etc.) from raising your insurance rates. Costs a few dollars a month. Most policies don't include it unless you ask.
"Loss of Use" coverage. Repairs after a collision can take 2–6 weeks. Daily rental costs add up fast. Often left off to save a few dollars.
Family Protection endorsement (OPCF 44R). If an uninsured or underinsured driver hurts you or your family, this covers the gap. Typically <$30/year.
Most insurers give a "claims-free" discount worth 5–15% of your premium. Make one claim and it disappears for years. This endorsement protects the discount after your first claim.
Water is now the #1 home claim category in Canada per Insurance Bureau of Canada reporting. A standard policy excludes overland flooding; sewer backup is usually an add-on. Both are needed for full water protection.
Service Line coverage. Underground water, sewer, gas, and electrical lines on your property are typically NOT covered by a standard policy — but repair bills often run $5,000–$15,000.
"Replacement Cost" vs. "Actual Cash Value." Ontario construction costs have risen 35%+ since 2020 (per Statistics Canada). On older policies, the gap between insured value and rebuild cost can be six figures.
